Postcard from Vancouver

Vancouver, Canada. Aug 2010.

I always have a soft spot for a city that interacts with nature. Think of Holyrood Park in the epicentre of Edinburgh – the Scottish wilderness and its Capital are held together. Much the same happens in Vancouver. The vistas across the bay are almost unreal: rugged Canadian mountains and an endless Bay within striking distance of the glittering modern downtown district. It also helped that I chose to come here at the height of summer when the weather cast a very favourable light on what was very recently the Winter Olympics stronghold. Trust the Canadians to get such a balance right.

This was the first step on my Northwest Holiday -after barely a week I would be hopping on the Amtrak Cascades and making the journey down to a far less otherworldly city, Seattle.

If you've made it this far down the post I bet you've got something to say. Go on, say it.
